I've had a few ideas wandering the wasteland of my brain for the last couple weeks and I want to gauge interest from those of you who pay attention to me (however few that may be).

I used to be part of the administrative team for SDL a while ago; more specifically, I ran the teams section for them. I was sifting through old journal entries and saw my former SDL posts, and it made me think.

SDL is basically an aggregation tool for OC battles. It lets you find people to compete with and provides a common base for you to design characters from. It also lets you establish a public record of how awesome of a comic battler you are, and it lets you advance your character and characterize them with every victory and every defeat. Some characters have become legendary through SDL -- look at the Gokiburi-gumi. Though founded by Endling, who had a strong fanbase to draw from, other artists who were not as well known have gained a following through the group's exploits, and their characters have become practical demigods.

It made me think that there was no reason not to set this kind of thing up for the thriving competitive writing community here on DA. We need not set a specific theme like feudal japan for the community (or league, as I'll refer to it from now on), but it could fulfill the same functions: keep a track record of a writer's exploits, provide contact with organized competitive events, help connect individual writers, and serve as a hub for the various activities that are going on.

It could also help facilitate the development of a new form of writing competition that is not based around a tournament format. I've been doing a lot of thinking about the pros and cons of the traditional OCT (if you'd like to read some of my notes on it, check here professorm.deviantart.com/art/…) and setting up a league would be the first step in trying to realize this new idea.

But, I'm getting ahead of myself. How do you feel about a group that helps network, standardize, track, and possibly administrate the various disparate competitive writing events that are going on around DA?
Do you think that it would be useful? Do you think that it is feasible? Do you think that there would be enough interest to support a group effort like this?

Ooh, writers league! Do want.

Question: would you be interested in having this listed in the #OCTFollowers league listing? [link]
